Mark these in your calendars and planners right now.

After a hectic shopping period over the last few months, new data is out showing just how much consumers spent over the holiday season. Up 12% compared to the previous year, desktop holiday sales surpassed a whopping 63 billion dollars (USD). But not all holidays are created equal.

About the data

The report comes from comScore who at the turn of each new year, release sales data for the holiday season. Measuring from November 1st right through to December 31, sale days are measured individually and comparatively to the same period of the previous year.

It’s important to note that the data only includes non-travel ecommerce spending (not travel) and excludes auctions and large corporate purchases.

What are the top 10 e-commmerce shopping days?

Data released by comScore shows once again that Cyber Monday pulls itself over the line as the highest spending day amongst shoppers for the second year running. Interestingly, the day following Cyber Monday came in as the second highest shopping day. Just over 10 days before Christmas, December 13th, ranked last in the list of top 10 e-commerce shopping days.

2016’s top 10 e-commerce shopping days vs. 2015

Compared to the same period of the previous year, total holiday sales were up by 12% – an impressive growth by most standards.

While Cyber Monday was the biggest spending day for the second year running, the biggest growth came from Black Friday which was up 19% compared to 2015.

For the entire season, 30 individual days exceeded $1 billion in online spending via desktop, nearly doubling the 16 days reaching that milestone the previous year.

What’s in store for 2017?

If these figures are anything to go buy, 2017 is set to be a big year for the top 10 e-commerce shopping days. We expect overall spend to increase with strong growth on days like Green Monday and Free Shipping Day. Given that both Cyber Monday and Black Friday have seen string growth rates, it’s hard to pinpoint which of the two will come in as the top shopping day. Given it’s track record, it’s likely to be Cyber Monday.

Mobile sales will also continue to grow and although it might not pass the 2 billion mark, 1.5 billion in holiday sales in not an unlikely estimate.
